Roy Minten / Selected works

About

Roy Henricus Maria Minten (° 1977 - Sint Anthonis, The Netherlands)
Education: Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp

Gaze is that obscure point, the blind spot from which the object looked upon returns the gaze.
The work of Roy Minten unites documentary with contemplative elements. His work consists of video, photography, installations and animated films. Sense of place has been of primary importance of his work. His photographs and video works often rise from journeys through the urban landscape. Minten's work concentrates on our distorted and problematic relationship with time, space and each other. Key themes are the abstraction of time, the disappearance of distances and the disembodiment of the individual that have resulted from globalisation and the changes to our living environment that developments in media, automation and technology have brought about. His work has a pre-narrated density, that of time itself. Things we see - person's, objects are mere markers of time; disintegration of the material.
